White Spirit (BS 245)
Our material conforms to BS 245 and purchased from a few selected sources to ensure consistent quality. White Spirit is used in the thinning of paint and linseed oil, cleaning of brushes and equipment but also to prepare some surfaces before painting. Our White Spirit will not go yellow or contain excess aromatics which can cause an un-sweet smell.

EcoSpirit (White Spirit Substitute)
Bird Brand EcoSpirit is a powerful water based alternative to White Spirit and Turps Substitute. It removes water based, most oil and xylene based paints from wet brushes, rollers and paint pads. It contains a conditioning agents leaving brushes soft and supple after use. EcoSpirit can also clean wet paint from
textiles, tiles and glass etc. EcoSpirit can also be effective for cleaning small spills from carpets.
PLEASE NOTE: EcoSpirit is not suitable for thinning paint.

Turps Substitute
Turpentine Substitute is another quality solvent mostly used in the clean up after painting. It can also be used to clean and degrease equipment and work areas. It also has a lower VAT rate than White Spirit (currently 5%).

Low Odour White Spirit
Low aromatic solvent more suitable for sensitive users and areas with poor ventilation. It has the cleaning power of White Spirit and can be mixed with oil based paints and linseed oils.

Genuine Turpentine
Bird Brand Genuine Turpentine is a natural product derived from the gum of the Pine Trees of Indonesia and Portugal. It is also known as Gum Turps and its pine fresh smell helps make it an excellent medium for mixing artists paints and for thinning and mixing with Bird Brand Linseed Oil & Beeswax to make home made furniture recipes.

Cellulose Thinners
Bird Brand Cellulose Thinners is a premium grade solvent used for thinning cellulose paints and priming, cleaning brushes and removing excess cellulose paint. It is a high grade solvent containing xylene which has a particularly strong odour and should be handled with extreme care.

It is also widely used in the automotive industry for removing stickers from windscreen and graphics from body work. As our Cellulose Thinners contains xylene it can also be used to thin 'Hammer' finish type paint and is much better value than the separate Brush Cleaner sold with the paint.

Ensure you test the colour-fastness of any area where you intend to use Cellulose Thinners. Dispose of the rags which come into contact with Cellulose Thinners are these will be a hazard and ensure the working area is thoroughly ventilated and stored in a safe place with the lid tightly closed.
It is a highly flammable liquid but as part of our Craftsman Range it is shipped in strong metal (UN standard) child proof tins.

Methylated Spirits
Mineralised Methylated Spirit for use as fuel (cooking and heating) and solvent for mixing and cleaning. It is a denatured alcohol and manufactured from virgin materials resulting in a cleaner burning flame. It is also used with good effect in Triangia and other burners. Methylated Spirits contains a purple dye and can be used as a thinner in our Button Polishes, French Polishes and Patent Knottings. It is highly flammable but the sizes identified as part of our Craftsman Range are shipped in strong metal (UN standard) child proof tins.
