Products : Wood Oils
Raw Linseed Oil Raw Linseed Oil
Raw Linseed Oil is a traditional and naural wood treatment used to nourish and protect oak and other timbers.
It is the oil of choice for most oak timbers, as the extra time it takes to dry gives the oil more chance of soaking into the oak. If the oak is very tired then it may be appropriate to use Boiled Linseed Oil. Please remember that any liquid will blacken oak and both linseed oils will darken the oak. Apply a test patch to check the suitability.
The Raw takes longer to dry and it is paler in colour and will not tend to dry with a gloss film.
Please read the attached sheet on application advice. Craftsman Range tins give clear instructions for use.
Boiled Linseed Oil Boiled Linseed Oil
Boiled Linseed Oil is a traditional sealing oil used to nourish and protect timbers and porous stones. Examples are cricket bats and sealing floor tiles such as terracotta tiles.
Boiled Linseed dries quicker tha Raw so on new Oak best use Raw. The Boiled also has a darker reddish tint and has a slightly glossy film.
However we recommend that the best way to use Linseed Oil is to mix a smll amount of White Spirit for the first coat, to prime the surface. For more advice on application please follow the link here. Craftsman Range tins give clear instructions for use.
Teak Oil Teak Oil
Teak Oil is used to replace the natural oils in unpolished indoor and outdoor wood. Popular applications are garden benches and furniture to give a low sheen and enrich the wood.
Some people have assumed that it should be used on Teak but any wood which is dry and prone to splitting is ideal for Teak Oil. Exterior timbers like garden furniture deserve several coats at least once a wear.
Available in 500ml, 1 Litre, 2.5 Litre, 5 Litre and 25 Litre sizes and one of best sellers in the Craftsman Range.
Craftsman Range tins give clear instructions for use.
Danish Oil Danish Oil
A very popular natural oil product for sealing and varnishing timbers. Contains Tung Oil to give some water and heat resistance and if a few coats are applied it gives a low sheen. Applications include the cupboard doors of kitchen units, wooden bath panels, worktops and garden furniture.
Danish Oil is also very good for areas in the kitchen as it is one of the oils deemed to be safe in contact with food. Tung Oil is otherwise known as Chinese Wood Oil and gives a shellac like hardwearing film. Fine wire wool can be an aid to application and preparation. A common mistake is to apply to much and then like Linseed Oil the surface goes tacky and then crosslinked it becomes near impossible to remove without severe abrasion.
The tin should be stirred and shaken before and during application. Craftsman Range tins give clear instructions for use.
